Around 11:30 GMT today, Israel announced on Channel 10 that it had ended the ceasefire. 

But actually, Israel never honoured the ceasefire on the ground. Peter Lerner, spokesman for the IDF, confirmed to Al-Jazeera at 16:00 GMT that the Israely military was conducting an operation to destroy the tunnels in Gaza during the truce, when they came under attack by Hamas resistants.
But first, they lied. Although it was clear for the reporters that the although air strikes, that are more visible, had paused, in Khan Yunis, for instance, you could hear a very regular thud of shells from Israeli tanks, there were a lot of ambulandes rushing into Khuzaa (east of Khan Younis) and dozens of bodies had been found. And Israeli soldiers entered Rafah during the ceasefire killing around 50 people while "looking for tunnels". And the Quassam Brigades came and responded by opening fire.

At 11:14 GMT, Hamas announced that if Israelis didn't stop attacking, they would resume their defence. And so they did. Soon after, Israel announced that Hamas had broken the ceasefire... Lerner later admitted they hadn't, as Israel did not respect its word from the beginning.
In fact, the actual text of the agreement released by the UN gave "no details" about what Israel was allowed to do during the ceasefire. It is incredible how they conspire against the Palestinians, in the details.
The IDF soldier on the left has been reported missing and the IDF has been searching the aerea where he disappeared. The White House warned the reported attack on the soldiers would be a "barbaric" violation of the ceasefire. Not the Israeli killing of around 20 civilians in Rafah. Double standards, always.

Um cessar-fogo que a Infantaria israelense não honrou nem um minuto. Em Khan Yunis, por exemplo, ouvia-se tiros de canhões regularmente e via-se ambulâncias transportando mortos e feridos trazidos do bairro Khuzaa. Além disso, as tropas da IDF não pararam de procurar os túneis da resistência matando quem estivesse em sua frente.
Mais tarde, às 16:00 GMT, o porta-voz da IDF admitiu que Israel continuou suas operações em terra durante o cessar-fogo. Embora tivessem mentido no início que tinha sido o Hamas que não cumprira a palavra. Lidar com os israelenses é barra. Não dá para acreditar em nada que declaram sem que eles mostrem provas concretas, impossíveis de serem forjadas.
E os soldados israelenses invadiram também Rafah, no sul da Faixa, durante o cessar-fogo, matando cerca de 50 pessoas. Aí as Brigadas Qassam acorreram e responderam abrindo fogo contra eles.
Às 11:14 o Hamas anunciou que se Israel não parasse a ofensiva a resistência voltaria ao ataque, e foi o que fez.
O texto divulgado pela ONU não "detalhava" o que autorizava Israel a fazer durante o cessar-fogo. É incrível como conspiram contra os palestinos até nos detalhes. Sobretudo nos detalhes que mudam o texto todo para desculpar Israel quando desrespeita sua palavra.
Um soldado da IDF desapareceu e as Brigadas al-Qassam já confirmaram sua captura. É o rapaz cuja foto está acima. A IDF organizou uma busca em toda a área onde ele "desapareceu".

O número de mortos palestinos até quinta-feira à noite em Gaza era de 1.458 pessoas. Mais de 80% de civis. Os feridos ultrapassavam 8.100.
Este número é superior às vítimas da Operação Cast Lead 2008/2009, que fez 1.391 vítimas do lado palestino e 13 israelenses - 4 por fogo amigo.

Here is a passage from a first-person account of the decimation of Khuza’a, by a writer identified as student Mahmoud Ismail. It was posted to Facebook and published on Global Voices Online on Monday 28 July:
"The first attack was on the road to Khan Younis, cutting Khuza’a off. The second hit the power transformers. The third, the mobile phone towers. The fourth, the landlines. We were alone, and the night in Khuza’a was pitch black, and the bombardment wasn’t stopping. The planes were hitting everything. The glass was falling from the windows, shrapnel was flying into the house and all around us. We sheltered in a place we thought was less dangerous, taking a position we thought would protect us. We counted the attacks and calculated the possibilities: is this the sound of a missile on its way to us? Is this shell in the house? Why hasn’t it exploded? Is so-and-so’s house targeted? Such-and-such mosque? This is a F16 attack, that is an artillery bombardment. The whole night was spent trying to hold on to our minds and what remained of our nerves".

Há momentos na vida que marcam o fortalecimento ou o fim de amizades e de relacionamentos.
Este massacre que Israel está realizando em Gaza é um deles.
Quem defendia Israel e que continua defendendo suas atrocidades não se sabe por que cargas d'água, ou por quais interesses obscuros que é melhor nem falar, estão chegando a um ponto de alienação no sentido próprio e figurado que só lhes permite guardar próximos de si pessoas que pensam como ela ou ele. Ou seja, desalmados, sectários, ou fascistas mesmo.
Tenho sorte de conhecer judeus conscientes que o humanismo e a humanidade são mais importantes do que uma suposta lealdade a um país dominado por extremistas com os quais só compartilham uma religião e olha lá, pois a que vigora em Israel está cada vez mais integrista e o país cada vez menos democrático e mais fascista.
Mas há um ou outro tipo de judeu que conheço, e que você também deve conhecer, que é cego e surdo ao genocídio do qual o governo israelense é responsável, mas infelizmente não emudece e continua a repetir as barbaridades e mentiras dos porta-vozes de Israel e de uma certa grande mídia que vocifera que o Hamas não tem direito de defender-se do ocupante que o esmaga e o deixa à deriva com seus dezenas de milhares de concidadãos exangues e à míngua.
A estes que ainda têm coragem de defender a ocupação, o ocupante, o carrasco, o criminoso de guerra e da ética, digo basta! e gostaria de sacudir um por um até acordarem deste sonho-quimera e enxergar o pesadelo em que os palestinos vivem desde 1948, que se intensificou em 1967 e que não para de piorar até hoje.
E os não-judeus que defendem os criminosos de Tel Aviv sem nem razão correligionária de defendê-los, digo com mais veemência: Acorde! Olhe! E veja se conseguiria viver desse jeito! Um pouco de empatia, por piedade! Mesmo se fosse covarde para reagir, quanto tempo você aguentaria prisioneiro como os gazauís vivem o tempo inteiro e como seria se fosse a sua terra que fosse surrupiada, sua casa destruída com todos os seus pertences gordos ou magross? É o que gostaria de dizer a cada um desses negacionistas de injustiça e atrocidades israelenses irrefutáveis.
Os "amigos" de Israel são o padrinho Estados Unidos e o ditador egípcio Sissi. E Tony Blair, outro dito criminoso de guerra que ficou impune.
E para concluir com a bobagem dita pelo israelense arrogante do Brasil ser "anão diplomático", o simples fato de o indivíduo ter se dado ao trabalho de fazer esta declaração já prova que o nosso país está longe de ser o que ele sugeriu em um rompante de despeito. Se fosse, esta frase não teria sido notícia no mundo inteiro. E como jornalista e cidadã brasileira baseada no exterior, tenho de dizer uma coisa que talvez chateie quem só vê defeitos no PT. Quer queira quer não, o Lula pôs o Brasil no mapa mundi e a Dilma reforçou a posição brasileira ao ponto de ingressar na lista das figuras mais influentes do planeta. Pela independência dos Estados Unidos. Antes do PT, reinava a subserviência.

Concordo com o rabino Siegman em todos os pontos, menos no tocante à sugestão da viabilidade estratégica dos palestinos renunciarem à soberania, à nacionalidade, à Pátria; concordar com a nacionalidade israelense em pertencendo a Israel onde reivindicariam a cidadania integral a fim de forçar uma situação que os próprios judeus israelenses rejeitariam e concordassem então com a noção, lógica, dos dois Estados. 

Acho esta ideia impraticável do começo ao fim.

Metaforicamente, seria como se a Argentina (desculpem, hermanos, por compará-los com Israel, mas é sem maudade) fosse uma super-potência bélica patrocinada pelos Estado Unidos, que invadisse o Brasil, destruisse 550 cidades nossas, exterminasse 20 por cento da população brasileira e o resto fosse fechada em cidades cercadas de muros e de arames farpados dentro das quais, para passar de um bairro a outro, tivéssemos de passar por barragens onde esperássemos horas para ir ao trabalho, à escola, fazer compras ou visitar amigos e familiares; ocupassem nosso território militarmente, derrubassem nossas casas e destruíssem lavouras a fim de construir colônias onde instalariam argentinos falando espanhol, nos espezinhando, destruindo nossas culturas, nadando em piscinas enquanto nós mal dispuséssemos de água potável para tomar, cozinhar e nos lavarmos; viver constantemente aterrorizados por drones que sobrevoassem nossas cidades dia e noite com um barulhinho que nos torturasse devagar e sempre e que de repente atirassem uma míssil em um outro lugar para demonstrar sua força; que um grupo de soldados invadissem nossa casa durante a noite para instalar-se confortavelmente por dois ou três dias e nos fechassem, mãe, pais, filhos, em um cômodo durante sua estadia, cerceando nosso movimento até para ir ao banheiro enquanto eles se fartariam com nossas provisões, assistiriram nossa televisão instalados em nossos sofás, e nós, espremidos em um quarto; e outro dia resolvessem demolir nossa casa e chegassem com um caterpilar armado de madrugada e acordássemos com o barulho da parede despencando e mal tivéssemos tempo de nos pôr a salvo e carregar o essencial, perdendo todos os bens conquistados, às vezes, com dificuldade; e que nos humilhassem; que os colonos argentinos nos insultassem quando cruzassem com um de nós brasileiros, que nos agredissem e matassem quando lhes desse na telha, à vista dos soldados; que atirassem nos nossos filhos no joelho, para aleijá-los, quando não na cabeça, para matá-los; que sequestrassem nossos cidadãos à vontade, dos 12 aos 70 anos, e os prendessem na Argentina aos milhares sem julgamento, sem direitos, sendo torturados, às vezes estuprados, abusados de toda forma imaginável; e que de dois em dois anos, nos bombardeasse destruindo tudo o que re-construímos com dificuldade; matassem e ferissem dezenas e centenas de crianças para que não crescessem simplesmente por serem brasileiros e que por isso, aos olhos do ocupante, não valessem nada; que os argentinos nos humilhassem em toda oportunidade, que nos despojassem também da nossa dignidade, e que um belo dia um gringo qualquer sugerisse:

O que vocês acham, como estratégia a médio prazo de obterem liberdade, autonomia, cidadania brasileira, de renunciarem a tudo o que lhes é mais caro - ser brasileiro, ser dono da terra em que nasceram e onde nasceram seus antepassados, do jeitinho que lhes é peculiar - e dizerem aos argentinos: Tudo bem, vocês me pisotearam e não aguento mais; engulo o sapo, vocês ganharam; concordo em virar argentino, em lhes dar o Brasil de mão beijada, de parar de falar português e passar a falar espanhol, de dançar tango em vez de sambar, enfim, não sou mais ninguém e mais nada, façam de mim o que acharem melhor; isto, esperando que os argentinos digam: Não! Não queremos que estes macaquitos tenham a nossa nacionalidade pois são milhões e vão acabar conosco a médio prazo!

Primeiro, você, leitor brasileiro, acha que os argentinos nos dariam uma parte do nosso Brasil para morarmos em um Estado nosso soberano e com liberdade ou nos fechariam em guetos para que não os incomodássemos?

Segundo, você conseguiria, depois de ser tratado como animal durante sua vida inteira pelo ocupante argentino bárbaro, capitular e oferecer-se para virar argentino como ele, após "argentino" ter sido o maior insulto que pudesse pronunciar?  

Eu jamais concordaria com essa tática. E você, compatriota, concordaria?

Acho difícil os palestinos aceitarem algo menos do que o que têm direito: um Estado deles, soberano, e garantia de liberdade em suas fronteiras de 1967.

Que me perdoe o Rabino com quem simpatizo bastante. Neste ponto, ele está errado. A única solução possível é a dos dois Estados de cara. E que os colonos judeus que invadiram terras palestinas voltem para Israel ou fiquem na Cisjordânia sob governo palestino.                 

"Israel has lost its grip on reality. The death toll in Gaza stands at well over a thousand and continues to rise by the day. The coastal strip has been reduced to rubble. Rather than celebrating Eid this week, Palestinians in Gaza have been burying their dead.

Jon Snow’s poignant message after his return from Gaza on Channel 4 news was heart-breaking. He had been reporting from Al Shifa hospital where he saw many horrific injuries and scores of dead children.

He ended his report with this plea to the public: “If our reporting is worth anything, if your preparedness to listen and watch and read is anything to go by, then together we can make a difference."

This latest massacre of Palestinians has been well documented, with every death recorded and every bombing filmed. Although this has yet to deter Israel, it is still important to keep documenting this assault so that its victims do not fall into the chasms of history.

But individuals in the international community need to go further than this. They need to boycott Israel. It might be the only thing that ends the impunity that is allowing them to repeatedly assault Palestinian human rights.

When airlines began cancelling their flights to Ben Gurion airport in Tel Aviv, Israel panicked. They demanded that the international airlines resume their flights and Netanyahu personally called John Kerry to lift the Federal Aviation Administration ban.

This minuscule moment in time when Israel was threatened with being internationally isolated spoke volumes.

Denmark, Norway and Finland condemned Israel’s attack on innocent civilians and have sent substantial humanitarian aid to assist the people of Gaza. However, so far only two South American countries have actively opposed Israel's war on Gaza. Chile has ceased trade relations with Israel, and Brazil has recalled its ambassador to Tel Aviv.

People are saying that Israel has been defeated morally. But it seems that they don’t care about this, so let us hit them where it hurts. Let us put our efforts into an initiative that helped to end South African apartheid.

The Boycott Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement started in 2005 and has been gaining momentum ever since. It has gained support from trade unions and various political groups all over world. They have also been endorsed by many celebrities and academics. In the UK they have had some significant victories, including when John Lewis (after BDS pressure) ceased trading with the well-known Israeli company Soda Stream.

Even locally, boycotting is taking place. In Jerusalem there is a noticeable absence of Palestinians in Israeli cafés and shops. This stems from a fear of Israeli violence against Palestinians but also, according to Palestinians I have spoken to, an attempt to boycott and damage the Israeli economy. In Ramallah, people have been placing stickers on Israeli products in shops saying: 16% of the profits go to the Israeli army” in an attempt to dissuade customers from buying them.

So let us step up our action. Let us boycott Israeli academic institutions, Israeli exports and the companies that have ties with Israel. Because even when Israel stops bombing Gaza, it will not be their final attempt to ethnically cleanse the land of Palestinians".

"In July 2002 the Israeli air force dropped a one-tonne bomb on the home of Salah Shehadeh, the head of the military wing of Hamas, in Gaza. You don’t have to be an expert in air combat to imagine what’s left of a home hit by a one-tonne bomb. Not much. That bomb killed not only Shehadeh, but also 14 civilians, including eight children.
At that time I served as an operations officer in the Israeli air force. Like many of my friends, I found myself carrying the burden of immense responsibility at the ripe age of 20. I was responsible for relaying commands and intelligence from headquarters to pilots, preparing aircraft for operations and providing support to pilots throughout.
After the assassination, Israel shook. Even when the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) insisted that there was operational justification for the attack, public sentiment could not accommodate this assault on innocent civilians. Israeli intellectuals petitioned the supreme court, demanding it examine the legality of this action. A few months later a group of reservist pilots criticised such elimination actions.
As soldiers and officers used to carrying out our missions without asking unnecessary questions, we were affected by the public reaction. But Dan Halutz, air force commander at the time, told pilots: “Sleep well at night. Don’t pay any notice of the criticism.” One month later Halutz, asked what a pilot feels when launching a one-tonne bomb on a home, said: “A slight jolt of the jet’s wing.” To outsiders this statement sounded cold and detached, but my friends and I trusted our commanders to make the right moral decisions, and returned our focus to the “important things” – the precise execution of further operations.
A few months later I was made commander of a course for air force officers. I taught cadets how to take responsibility for their actions as officers. We studied the lessons of previous air force operations. I taught them that the IDF is the most moral army in the world, and that the air force is the most moral corps within the IDF.
I believed with all my heart that we were doing what needed to be done. If there were casualties, they were a necessary evil. If there were mistakes, they would be investigated.
Things have changed, and now I can no longer have that certainty. In 2002 the dropping of a one-tonne bomb on a home resulting in civilian deaths was the exception. The IDF eventually acknowledged that the assault on Shehadeh’s house had been wrong. They deemed it a failure in intelligence and said that, had they known there were civilians in the home, they would not have carried out the operation.
Seven years later, during Operation Cast Lead, there was widespread dropping of bombs over densely populated areas in the Gaza Strip. Today, in Operation Protective Edge, the air force boasts of having released over 100 one-tonne bombs on Gaza. What was once the exception is now the policy.
This is how it goes today. We notify the inhabitant about the imminent destruction of a house minutes before a bomb drops (via text messages, or by dropping a smaller bomb on the house as a warning). That is enough to turn it into a legitimate target for an air strike. In the past two weeks dozens of civilians have been killed in such strikes.
Homes of Hamas members have become legitimate targets, regardless of the number of people within their walls. Unlike in 2002, no one bothers to justify or make excuses.
What’s worse is that almost no one protests. Entire families are erased in a second, and the Israeli public remains indifferent. From year to year, from one military operation to another, our moral red lines are stretching further away. Where will they be in the next operation? Where will they be 10 years from now?
I know how hard it is to ask questions during times of conflict as a soldier. The information that the officers get in real time is always partial. That’s why the responsibility for drawing the red lines, and alerting when we cross it, lies with the public. A clear, loud voice that says that bombing a house with civilians in it is immoral must be heard. These killings cannot be accepted without question. Public silence in the face of such actions – inside and outside of Israel – is consent by default, and acceptance of an unacceptable price."

Hamas and other Palestinian factions have agreed to a 24-hour humanitarian truce in the Gaza Strip, starting at 2pm local time (11:00 GMT).
Sami Abu Zuhri said in a statement on Sunday the group took the decision after studying a UN proposal for a ceasefire and taking into consideration the situation of the people of Gaza and the Muslim Eid al-Fitr celebrations expected to start on Monday.  
There was no immediate word from Israel, which called off its own 24-hour truce earlier in the day after Hamas fired a volley of rockets into southern and central Israel. Israeli artillery shelling since this morning killed 11 people. More than 6,000 injured since Israel launched its offensive on the Mediterranean enclave, home to 1.8 million Palestinians.
A top US Department of Defence intelligence official has just warned his President that the destruction of Hamas would only lead to something more dangerous taking its place, as he offered a grim portrait of a period of enduring regional conflict. Which every single specialist knows for years.

O que adianta uma trégua, um cessar-fogo que não decida nada?
Só adianta para "melhorar" a imagem de Israel que despencou no mundo inteiro e dar-lhes tempo de atacar outras vezes com mais força daqui a pouco ou no ritmo que vêm fazendo, de dois em dois anos.
Foi por isso que o Hamas declinou a proposta que Israel fez através de seus porta-vozes estadunidenses e franceses.
É impossível para o Hamas, impossível para os gazauís, impossível para a Palestina inteira, após a imensa perda das últimas semanas, aceitar um cessar-fogo que não implique no mínimo o fim do bloqueio.
Se a ONU fizesse valer o seu peso e seu Secretário Geral representasse as 193 nações em vez de representar apenas os Estados Unidos e cumprir apenas os seus desejos, nem abordaria um cessar-fogo que não atacasse o mal pela raiz. Ou seja, a cadeia de causas que levaram ao atual conflito.
Primeiro a ocupação pura e simples da Cisjordânia e da Faixa de Gaza.
Segundo, na Cisjordânia, o fim da colonização/invasão militar e civl israelense.
Segundo, na Faixa de Gaza, a ruptura da cadeia de eventos desde 2005 quando Ariel Sharon retirou as colônias judias da Faixa - porque eram inviáveis e para poder bombardear à vontade mais tarde.
Aliás, todos os problemas deste conflito começaram com o general buldozer Ariel Sharon. Esse homem era o mal personificado.

Quando Sharon tirou as colônias israelenses da Faixa, o fez como estratégia de comunicação, para efeito de propaganda, em demonstração de "boa vontade". Concomitantemente, as colônias na Cisjordânia só aumentavam, mas a mídia fez vista grossa, e os Estados Unidos aplaudiram o "ato de coragem" do general cínico que sabia muito bem que aquilo era distração, nada mais.
Acontece que Sharon tirou as colônias, mas manteve seu domínio da Faixa inteira.
Manteve o controle do espaço aéreo - drones armados da IDF sobrevoam dia e noite a Faixa com um barulhinho típico intimidante que faz com que a população viva em sobressalto (o foguetório esporádico do Hamas que "apavora" os civis em Israel comparado com esta tortura constante é bobagem); manteve o controle das águas; manteve o controle do comércio; manteve o controle do movimento dos habitantes e da terra fronteiriça com Israel. Engolindo inclusive mais um pedacinho da já exígua Faixa.
Em outras palavras, a Faixa de Gaza continuou ocupada.
Em 2006, com a vitória eleitoral do Hamas nas eleições democráticas, viraria uma prisão completa.
Foi uma manobra estratégica sem falha. Israel deu uma de bonzinho aos incautos e dar munição de defesa ao padrinho gringo; conseguiu adiar suas obrigações com a OLP, negociadas e prometidas a Yasser Arafat sob as vistas de Bill Clinton - cuja mulher, Hillary, é patrocinada pela AIPAC, o maior lobby sionista dos Estados Unidos.
Pois bem, antes de retirar-se fisicamente da Faixa, o general Bulldozer assegurou-se junto com George W. Bush e Tony Blair - os dois criminosos que deveriam estar na Háguia em vez de dando palestras - que o Hamas seria decapitado pelo conflito político e armado deste com o Fatah que os três provocaram na Faixa em 2007. Quando os Estados Unidos e a Inglaterra, mancomunados com Israel, armaram o Fatah para que desse cabo do Hamas na Faixa. Não deu.
O Hamas saiu vitorioso e em vez de dominado, botou o Fatah pra fora como traidor da pátria. O que foi.

A partir daí a OLP ficou enfraquecida porque ficou dividida, as colônias/invasões israelenses na Cisjordânia foram crescendo e as negociações "de paz" foram feitas com um Mahmoud Abbas enfraquecido que era considerado pelos palestinos mais próximos de Tel Aviv do que de Gaza.
O Fatah passou a governar a Cisjordânia e o Hamas, a Faixa de Gaza.
De lá pra cá, Israel transformou a Faixa em prisão ao "ar livre" sob barulho constante dos drones que atiram bombas de vez em quando para mostrar sua presença e intimidar mais ainda matando e bloqueia tudo que entra e sai do presídio de 1 milhão e 800 mil pessoas. Mas seu território continuou o mesmo.
De lá pra cá, a Cisjordânia foi só perdendo terreno, literalmente, para a ocupação civil, através das invasões /colônias judias (que a imprensa brasileira chama carinhosamente de assentamentos), o muro foi se insinuando em suas vidas como uma serpente, os checkpoints foram controlando seus mínimos movimentos, a Autoridade Nacional Palestina criou uma polícia subserviente a Tel Aviv e os cisjordanianos se acostumaram a baixar a cabeça para não levar coronhada nem tiro no joelho ou na cabeça por simplesmente levantá-la ao cruzar com colonos e soldados que invadem suas terras.
De lá pra cá, a Faixa de Gaza sobrevive bem que mal ao bloqueio de cabeça alta. O Hamas construiu túneis entre a Faixa e o Egito (bombardeados quase todos pela IDF e pelo general Sissi nos últimos meses) para "importar" gêneros alimentícios, e armas, e exerce seu direito de resistir.

Quando Ariel Sharon terminou o seu Disengament Plan na Faixa de Gaza em 2005, 643 gazauís haviam sido mortos por colonos e soldados da IDF, e o Hamas havia matado 43 invasores/colonos.
O general israelense declarou então: "My disengagement plan ... will improve Israel's security and economy and will reduce friction and tension between Israelis and Palestinians. My plan will create a new and better reality for the State of Israel. And it also has the potential to create the right conditions to resume negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians".
O presidente da autoridade palestina Mahmoud Abbas declarou: "The Israeli pullout was the result of the sacrifices, patience and wisdom of our people… The most important step after the withdrawal will be how we protect, rebuild".
Since then, the second Palestinian Intifada, or uprising, against Israeli occupation began in 2000, throwing Hamas into the spotlight as the group led much of the armed resistance.
Hamas won the 2006 Palestinian legislative council elections. Following its election victory, the United States, European Union and Israel imposed severe economic sanctions on the Palestinian territories.
This exacerbated political tensions between Hamas and Fatah, the leading Palestinian political party. The rival factions then fought bloody battles in the West Bank and Gaza for control of the territories.
After a tentative agreement to form a unity government in 2007, the Fatah-led Palestinian Authority retained control over the West Bank, while Hamas governed the Gaza Strip.
In June 2008, Egypt brokered a six-month ceasefire between Hamas and Israel. Hamas promised to halt rocket attacks while Israel agreed to ease an embargo that had stopped humanitarian aid from getting through, and to stop military raids into Gaza.
On November 4, 2008, Israel launched a military incursion into a residential area of Dayr al-Balah in Central Gaza in an attempt to arrest Hamas members. Israel insisted that this was not a violation of the ceasefire. After several weeks of repeated flare-ups in violence, Hamas announced the end of its truce with Israel.
De lá pra cá, o Hamas ganhou as eleições e Israel fez três operações militares devastadoras na Faixa de Gaza que terminaram com um cessar-fogo que o Hamas aceitou com promessas de mudança e que no final deixou a Faixa devastada, muitos mortos, e tudo continuou do mesmo jeito, inclusive o bloqueio.

Em 2008/09 - Operação Cast Lead: A Operação Cast Lead começou no dia de Natal, quando o Ocidente estava distraído com as celebrações cristãs de fim de ano.
The Gaza war, also known as Operation Cast Lead, began on December 27, 2008. Israel immediately launched a widespread aerial bombing campaign, targeting more than 100 locations in the densely-populated Gaza Strip, including residential homes, police stations, schools, United Nations buildings, and hospitals.
An Israeli ground assault was launched on January 3, 2009. During the operation, Israeli forces fired shells containing white phosphorus, an illegal weapon that burns indiscriminately.
The conflict ended in a unilateral Israeli-declared ceasefire on January 18.
No final, Israel perdeu 13 pessoas. 10 soldados (4 por fogo amigo) e 3 civis. E 518 feridos.
Os palestinos perderam 1391 gazauís (318 menores), ficaram com 5300 feridos (350 em estado crítico) e 11.154 casas foram destruídas. Sem contar a infra-estrutura pública. E os bens comerciais e públicos. Mortes palestinas acumuladas no fim das contas: 55 israelenses e 2.158 palestinos.
Declarações do primeiro ministro israelense Ehud Olmert:  "Israel embarked on Operation Cast Lead not as a first option but as a last resort, after we tried all other ways and options to bring quiet to the communities in the south". Líder do Hamas, Khaled Meshaal:  "None of the atrocities committed against our schools, universities, mosques, ministries, and civil infrastructure would deter us in the pursuit of our national rights. Undoubtedly, Israel could demolish every building in the Gaza Strip but it would never shatter our determination or steadfastness to live in dignity on our land". Secretary of State USA Condoleeza Rice: "The United States strongly condemns the repeated rocket and mortar attacks against Israel and holds Hamas responsible for breaking the ceasefire and for the renewal of violence in Gaza". Presidente do Egito Hosni Mubarack: "[There is a] danger of the latest Israeli threats and their repercussions on the stability and security of the region and the cause of Middle East peace... [Israel should] revisit its stances and policies, and... take tangible steps to build trust with the Palestinians".
E a situação dos gazauís piorou em vez de melhorar.
After the ceasefire came into effect, Hamas gave Israel a week to pull its troops out of the territory. Israel's land, air and water blockade of the Gaza Strip continued, however.
Meanwhile, Egypt came under criticism for not opening the Rafah crossing, the only point of access to Gaza that does not go through Israel.
Egypt said in 2009 that it could not fully open its border with Gaza because this would imply it recognised Hamas and its control over Gaza and would undermine the legitimacy of the Palestinian Authority.

Entre 2009 e 2012, a IDF matou 117 gazauís em mini-operações quotidianas diversas e os foguetes do Hamas mataram 6 israelenses.

Em 2012, foi a vez da Operação Pillar of Defense: On November 14, 2012, Israel killed Ahmed Jabari, chief of Hamas' military wing in Gaza, in a targetted air strike on his car in Gaza City. Hamas responded by firing a barrage of rockets at nearby Israeli towns.

Israel then embarked on an eight-day military offensive on Gaza, which it called Operation Pillar of Defense. 

Hamas said the rockets were fired as a reaction to the blockade on Gaza and the occupation of the West Bank.
Israel claimed that the operation was a response to an increase in the number of rockets fired into Israeli territory in the days and weeks preceding the operation. 

Durante esta Operação militar israelense, 6 israelenses morreram (2 civis) e 239 ficaram feridos (219 civis).

Os palestinos atiraram 765 granadas artesanais, 741 grad-rockets de longa distância, 135 tiros de morteiro.

Na Faixa de Gaza, 171 palestinos foram mortos (101 civis) e mais de mil foram feridos (971 civis). 

A IDF conduziu 1.500 bombardeios, 7 tiros de canhões da artilharia naval, 360 tiros de morteiro.    

No final, as declarações públicas foram as seguintes: O primeiro ministro israelense Binyamin Netanyahu: "Today we sent a clear message to Hamas and other terrorist organisations, and if it becomes necessary we are prepared to expand the operation… Hamas and the terror organisations have chosen to escalate their attacks on the citizens of Israel in the recent days [and] we will not tolerate a situation in which Israeli citizens are threatened by rocket fire". 

O líder das Brigadas al-Qassan (forças armadas do Hamas) "Israel has opened the gates of hell on itself … the occupation committed a dangerous crime and crossed all the red lines, which is considered a declaration of war. The occupation will pay dearly for this and we will make it regret the moment they thought about it".

Barack Obama: "There's no country on Earth that would tolerate missiles raining down on its citizens from outside its borders. So we are fully supportive of Israel’s right to defend itself from missiles landing on people’s homes and workplaces and potentially killing civilians. And we will continue to support Israel’s right to defend itself". O então presidente do Egito Mohamed Morsi: "We are in contact with the people of Gaza and with Palestinians and we stand by them until we stop the aggression and we do not accept under any circumstances the continuation of this aggression on the Strip".

No final das contas, Israel contava 61 mortos; a Faixa de Gaza, 2332.

Após o cessar-fogo, os Estados continuaram sua doação de 3 bilhões de dólares anuais para Israel junto com seu apoio incondicional na ocupação da Cisjordânia e do bloqueio da Faixa de Gaza e a situação dos gazauís só foi piorando.

Between 2012 and 2014, in short, in March 2013, the US, Israel, and the Palestinian Authority negotiated a deal to re-start stalled peace talks. The negotiations were given a deadline of April 2014.

Israeli officials promised to freeze some settlement construction and release 104 Palestinian prisoners, including 14 Palestinian citizens of Israel that have been in jail since before the Oslo Accords agreement was signed in 1993.

After Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations stalled once again, Fatah moved towards reconciliation with Hamas in Gaza, and the two factions formed a Palestinian consensus government in early June.

Israel blamed Hamas for the June 12 kidnapping of three teenage settlers in the occupied West Bank. After the youth's bodies were found on July 1, Israel said that Hamas "will pay" for their deaths.

E veio a Operação defensive Edge em 2014 enquanto o mundo estava distraído com a Copa do Mundo.

Israel's Operation Protective Edge was launched on July 8, 2014. Israeli officials warned that they would carry out extensive air raids on the Gaza Strip. The military called up 40,000 reservists, while deploying around 1,500 soldiers around the perimetre of Gaza. And then came the raids, the strikes, the invasion.

Portanto, é compreensível que Khaled Meshaal, e os palestinos, apesar das enormes perdas humanas e materiais, não concordem com um cessar-fogo fictício. Que os deixe de novo presos, carentes e, literalmente, a ver e ouvir constantemente drones nos ares, e no mar, a ver navios.

Esta guerra desproporcional e injusta só vai ser a última se os intermediários entenderem que tem de acabar com o bloqueio e que a retirada unilateral da Faixa de Gaza foi uma medida estratégica (e não generosa) para enfraquecer a Autoridade Nacional Palestina e deixar a Faixa à mercê de Israel.

Não há como viver desse jeito. Barack Obama deveria fazer uma visita à Faixa de Gaza. Quem sabe ele enfrentaria a AIPAC e seus bilhões de dólares e que ao invés de ser cúmplice de crimes e ilegalidades, privilegiasse a justiça. É pena que nos EUA o vil metal fale tão mais alto do que a ética e a moral.
