No dia 01 de julho de 2004 as Forças israelenses de ocupação invadiram Jericó e Nablus e impuseram em ambas cidades cisjordanianas toque de recolher e estado de sítio.
Na Faixa de Gaza o sítio de Beit Hanun continuava agoniando as famílias. As condições de vida da população se agravava dia a dia. Os caterpillars armados da IDF "desapropriavam" - ou seja, esmagavam residências, oliveirais, lavouras - em um perímetro de cinco quilômetros de "security zone" no qual deixavam famílias desabrigadas e agricultores despojados da fonte de sustento familiar.
Nesse ínterim, outros soldados da IDF matavam um menino de 9 anos em Rafah, aumentando para três o número de assassinados nas últimas 24 horas.
No dia 02 a IDF retirou-se de Rafah pondo um fim passageiro a dois dias de ataques à cidade.
O pretexto para invadir Rafah, agredir e humilhar adultos e crianças era sempre o mesmo, a procura de resistentes e armas. Só que 95 por cento das vezes as tropas israelenses saíam de mãos vazias e o sangue que derramavam era de civis, pais de família, meninos que estavam no lugar errado, que na Palestina é brincando na rua, indo para a escola, quando os soldados investiam o bairro em que moravam ou estudavam.
Os dias seguintes foram repetitivos para a IDF e para suas vítimas.
Os soldados investiam uma ou outra cidade nos territórios ocupados e impunham o terror quotidiano para o qual foram treinados.
O professor de engenharia elétrica da Universidade Al Najah, Dr. Khaled Salah de 52 anos e o filho Mohammed de 16 foram dois dos assassinados em Nablus nesse período.
No dia 09 a Corte Internacional de Justiça (CIJ), a mais alta instância jurídica das Nações Unidas, deu seu veredito sobre o muro que Israel estava construindo apressadamente além da Linha Verde surrupiando teras palestinas: É ilegal e tem de ser interditado imediatamente.
Nos termos do Órgão, Israel must cease construction of the wall and dismantle sections located in the occupied territories forthwith; repeal or render ineffective all related legislative and regulatory acts; compensate for damage caused; and return Palestinian property or provide compensation if restitution is not possible.
A CIJ recomendou também que os países membros da ONU "should neither recognize the wall nor provide aid or assistance to maintain the circumstances created by its construction; prevent any impediment, created by the wall’s construction, to the exercise of the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination; and, ensure Israel’s compliance with international humanitarian law. It called on the UN to consider what further action was needed to end the illegal situation caused by the wall’s construction."
A condenação do Tribunal da Háguia à barreira expansionista não podia ser mais clara.
Lembro que a primeira página do jornal israelense Haaretz, (progressista no limite possível em Tel Aviv) saiu com duas manchetes nesse dia.
Uma delas era sobre o veredito da Háguia. A outra era sobre o aniversário de cem anos da morte do judeu austro-húngaro Theodor Herzl, inventor do movimento sionista moderno.
Lembro também de ter ficado meio desentendida com a ligação, apesar de conhecer bem a teoria sionista de Herzl. Aliás, li seu livro Der Judenstaat (O Estado Judeu) no mesmo período que li Mein Kampf (Minha Luta) de Adolf Hitler a fim de confirmar a semelhança incrível dos dois panfletos políticos; antagônicos, em princípio - o segundo livro de Herzl, Altneuland (A Antiga Nova Terra) é um romance "inspirado" no Utopia, do grande Thomas More, e romanceia um Grande Israel que coopta em vez de excluir a população nativa palestina.
Aí como sempre acontece quando uma atitude judeo-israelense me deixa perdida, apelei para a sapiência do jornalista Uri Avnery que esclareceu o ponto de vista do Haaretz com sua conhecida maestria.
"This coincidence may seem fortuitous. What connection could there possibly be between a historical anniversary and the latest topical event?
But there is a connection. It is expressed in one sentence written by Herzl in Der Judenstaat, the book that became the cornerstone of Zionism.

This sentence could easily be written today. American thinkers propound the “clash of civilizations”, with Western “Judeo-Christian” culture battling “Islamic barbarism”. American leaders declare that Israel is the outpost of Western civilization in the fight against Arab -Muslim “international terrorism”. The Sharon government is building a wall for the purpose, or so it says, of protecting Israel against Palestinian-Arab terrorism. It declares at every opportunity that the fight against “Palestinian terrorism” is a part of the struggle against “international terrorism”. The Americans support the Israeli wall with all their heart and their wallet.
Even the semi-official name of the barrier – the “Separation Fence” – emphasizes this tendency. It is intended to “separate” between nations, between civilizations, and indeed to separate culture (us) from barbarism (them).
These are profoundly ideological reasons...
This is also true for another aspect of the wall. In Herzl’s day a phrase was coined that became the slogan of the Zionist movement in its early years: “A land without a people for a people without a land.” That is to say, Palestine is an empty country.
Anyone who tours the length of the planned path of the wall is struck by one aspect that leaps to the eye: it has been determined without the slightest consideration for the life of the Palestinian human beings living there. The wall crushes them as a man steps on an ant. Farmers are cut off from their fields, workers from the workplaces, pupils from their schools, sick people from their hospitals, the bereaved from the graves of their beloved ones.
It is easy to imagine the officers and settlers bent over the map and planning the path – as though through an empty space, with nothing there except settlements, army bases and roads. They argue about topography, tactical considerations and strategic objectives. Palestinians? What Palestinians?...
Now comes the International Court of Justice and announces principles that are much closer to those supported by the Israeli peace forces that have demonstrated against the wall. It says that the wall itself is illegal, except where it follows the Green Line. All the sectors built inside the occupied territories violate international law as well as conventions and agreements signed by Israel.
...Will this have any impact on Israeli public opinion? I am afraid not. During the last few months, the official propaganda machine has been preparing the public for this day. The judges of the International Court , it was said, are anti-Semites. It is well known that all the nations, with the possible exception of the United States , want to destroy the Jewish State. Some years ago a jolly song was very popular: “All the world is against us / But we don’t give a damn…” So, to hell with them!"

Os israelense reagiram do jeitinho que seu compatriota pacifista previra.
Como já disse, os dois governos mais "competentes" em contra-informação, em transformar mentiras e fabulações em notícias "irrefutáveis" são Israel e os Estados Unidos. E na disputa entre os dois, Israel tem vitória garantida.
Quanto a Ariel Sharon, bem, Ariel Sharon estava tranquilo, e como seu parceiro George W. Bush, todo sorrisos e sem nenhuma preocupação com a Justiça Internacional a que ambos deviam, por definição onusiana, estar submetidos como todos os outros membros das Nações Unidas.
Mas não. Israel e Estados Unidos formam uma união própria, de afilhado e padrinho, em que uma mão lava a outra desde 1948 e os papeis de protetor e protegido se invertem conforme o autor do delito.

O porta-voz da Casa Branca Schott McClellan, a bordo do Air Force One, ousou declarar aos jornalistas que "We do not believe that that's the appropriate forum [a Corte Internacional de Justiça] to resolve what is a political issue. This is an issue that should be resolved through the process that has been put in place, specifically the road map... We certainly recognize the need for Israel to defend itself and protect the people of Israel. It's also important that they allow the Palestinian people to move freely within that region."
Os senadores Democratas Hillary Clinton e Charles Schumer foram mais longe ainda. Apressaram-se a anunciar que se pronunciariam contra a decisão da CIJ diante do prédio das Nações Unidas em Nova York, a fim de obter maior impacto. Queriam deixar claro que a ala sionista do Partido Democrata também achava que Israel era intocável.
Dito e feito. Nem vale a pena transcrever o que os dois disseram. Hillary Clinton sustentaria a mesma posição como Secretary of State de Barack Obama e pioraria bastante a situação.
Eli Hurani demonstrou em um parágrafo no site da Eletronic Intifada o absurdo da reação destes políticos estadunidenses. "The ICJ [Corte Internacional de Justiça] advisory opinion, one of the most important legal opinions on the question of Palestine and international peace and security in the region since the United Nations assumed responsibility for the future of the country in 1947, presents a clear alternative to the status quo of the Oslo process, the international Road Map, the Sharon disengagement plan, and, the April 2004 US letter of assurance to Israel. International law provides the foundation for this alternative."

Na véspera do dia em que o Mundo civilizado ouvia o veredito da CIJ, agentes israelenses à paisana invadiram uma casa em Beit Hanun e assassinaram sete resistentes com apoio aéreo de dois Apaches e terrestre de snipers bem localizados.
Um deles era uma moça, Jamila Hamad encarregada de vigiar a porta. Quatro deles pertenciam à Brigada al-Aqsa, um era do Hamas e outro do Jihad.
No dia 11 de julho uma bomba das Brigadas al-Aqsa, do Fatah, feriu vinte israelenses e matou um soldado em um ponto de ônibus em Tel Aviv. A intenção era provar que a barreira não garantia a Israel nenhuma segurança ao contrário do que a propaganda de Ariel Sharon induzia a pensar.
Dois dias depois a IDF assassinou o líder em Jenin do Jihad, Numan Tahayna e um colono judeu atropelou de propósito um senhor palestino perto de Belém. Nem parou para ver o morto que deixou para trás.
Aliás, o atropelamento de velhos e meninos palestinos por colonos é comum. Quando a família dá queixa aos tribunais israelenses, a pena imposta ao motorista é mínima ou nenhuma. A mesma imposta para a morte de um animal.
Os colonos israelenses vivem aprontando. Queimam oliveiras, furam e poluem caixas d'água para os palestinos ficarem sem água potável, destroem lavouras, incendeiam oliveiras e carros, depredam propriedades, atacam crianças, enfim, fazem o diabo a quatro para infernizar o quotidiano dos nativos com o propósito de forçá-los ao êxodo.
É um terrorismo notório quotidiano. Mas no dia 14 de julho o nível baixou mais ainda.
Envenenaram uma cisterna em Hebron e 110 crianças foram salvas da morte in extremis. A cisterna em questão fornecia água para o sul inteiro da cidade palestina. Com este gesto horrendo os colonos contavam "esvaziar" os bairros para ocupar as casas dos hebronitas.
As substâncias químicas foram jogadas no poço por quatro colonos para-militares armados. A sorte foi que foram vistos nas paragens e o prefeito local, Saber Alhareeny, logo isolou a área. Os adultos também sofreram efeitos nocivos da arma química, mas com menos gravidade.
A notícia da hospitalização dos meninos logo espalhou-se pela Cisjordânia, pela Faixa de Gaza e o choque foi grande com a tentativa de assassinato em massa.
Porém, nenhuma providência jurídica seria tomada.
O colonos judeus continuam a poluir a água dos palestinos até hoje, por meios cada vez mais perversos e produtos químicos que provocam danos à saúde sem ser fatal, quando a vítima é socorrida a tempo. Uma arma de nuância sofisticada que chama menos atenção que a arma química letal com a mesma eficácia da limpeza étnica direta.
No dia 17 a IDF executou um membro do Hamas, Basil Abu Sha'b, e um do Fatah, Sahir Aja in Saida.
Enquanto isso, o Embaixador da Jordânia na ONU solicitou uma sessão de emergência da Assembleia para votar uma Resolução que adotasse o veredito da CIJ sobre a ilegalidade do Apartheid Wall.
Foi atendido.
No dia 20 de julho de 2004 a maioria absoluta das Nações Unidas (150 a favor, 6 contra, 10 abstenções) sancionou uma Resolução exigindo que Israel derrubasse o muro na Cisjordânia.
Os Estados Unidos, além de votarem contra, condenaram os votos favoráveis usando o argumento que usam até hoje para evitar que a Justiça Internacional seja aplicada a Israel e que o penalize por seus pequenos e grandes crimes: This is not the right way to proceed.
Para acenar em seguida com a miragem de negociações de paz sem nenhuma pausa na colonização nem na extensão do muro além da Linha Verde.
Esta Resolução da ONU foi considerada a mais importante sobre a região desde a 181 adotada em 1947 (que dividia a Palestina para permitir a criação do Estado de Israel).
Os Estados Unidos e Israel só tiveram o apoio da Austrália e dos micro-Estados Maschall Islands, Micronesia e Palau. Os 25 países da União Europeia votaram em peso a favor a Resolução.
Que não daria em nada, como as anteriores que já haviam sido aprovadas.
Do dia 25 ao dia 31 de julho os ataques da IDF continuaram e o muro também, ambos aparentemente indestrutíveis em sua arbitraridade.
O mês terminou com a informação que Israel detinha 7.500 prisioneiros palestinos de 12 a 75 anos. Muitos deles sem julgamento nem acusação formal e 800 dos detentos, doentes, sem cuidados médicos adequados.
A notícia chocante foi seguida da do assassinato de um menino de 11 anos. Um de oito palestinos mortos durante operações costumeiras da IDF na Faixa de Gaza. Uma menina de 16 anos também levou um tiro na cabeça durante a operação de execução de três resistentes. Efeitos colaterais. Sem importância.
O mês de julho terminou com 58 mortos palestinos e 3 israelenses.

Mas a amizade falou mais alto e dez dias mais tarde Qorei atenderia aos pedidos de Abu Ammar e voltaria atrás.
Foi atendido.

O mês terminou com a informação que Israel detinha 7.500 prisioneiros palestinos de 12 a 75 anos. Muitos deles sem julgamento nem acusação formal e 800 dos detentos, doentes, sem cuidados médicos adequados.
A notícia chocante foi seguida da do assassinato de um menino de 11 anos. Um de oito palestinos mortos durante operações costumeiras da IDF na Faixa de Gaza. Uma menina de 16 anos também levou um tiro na cabeça durante a operação de execução de três resistentes. Efeitos colaterais. Sem importância.
O mês de julho terminou com 58 mortos palestinos e 3 israelenses.

I remember seeing those kids in Hebron and feeling proud that they’re afraid. These are kids I’m talking about, like, really. And who were they afraid of? The Jewish kids. They don’t do anything, but the Jewish kids throw rocks at them when they pass by. The Jewish parents don’t say a word. The parents stand around, and you see a little Jewish kid throwing stones and yelling something at the Arab kids, and it was just routine. You come to Tel Rumeida and you see it every day, and it’s okay, it’s acceptable. And the parents, I don’t know if they’re the parents, but adults walk around and they don’t say a word to the kids.
It doesn’t seem strange to you that a kid throws a stone at another kid?
Because one’s a Jew and the other’s a Palestinian, it’s as if it’s okay.
Did you also see the opposite, a Palestinian throwing a stone at a Jew?
I remember that I’d say that it was kind of okay, but to myself I’d think, come on, what is he, retarded? That guy didn’t do anything to him. I’d think, this is what causes the whole mess, these little fights, these things that the Jews start. I know their parents teach them to hate them, and so they legitimize throwing rocks and cursing at them. It’s the kind of thing you see on TV. So it’s clear there’ll be a mess afterward. And you don’t understand which side you’re on. In Hebron it’s the strangest thing, you don’t know which side you’re on. I’m a Jewish Israeli soldier, and I’m supposed to be against the Arabs because they’re my enemy, but I’m here, next to a settler’s house in the base, and I start thinking that I’m not on their side, that the Jews aren’t right. So wait, so no, I have to flip a switch in my brain so I can keep hating Arabs and justifying what the Jews do. But no, wait, I still can’t agree with the Jews, because they started it, it’s because of them that we’re here, and it’s because of them that all this is happening, because they disturb them and they’re afraid. It’s terrible, all of this . . .
So why flip the switch?
Because you have to be loyal to your side.
How old are the kids you’re talking about?
Young, like five or six. The ones who run around outside.

When you're in this kind of place, ongoing warfare, uncertainty, you become indifferent to everything going on around you. In fact, eventually you don't care. You don't care about them, about what happens to them. You don't care. You pass your time because you know you have to and there's nothing you can do about it, whether it's a warning or something that is actually happening. You don't know. Something has to happen that really shocks you in order for you to change, and I guess it doesn't. The fact is such serious things did occur and so many people would not talk about them. Perhaps, too, they don't think it is so severe or serious – that it was natural, a part of what we called ongoing warfare.
